Breastfeeding Photo Project: Call for Nursing Moms

breastfeeding
With all this breastfeeding talk happening on the internets this week, a little idea has popped into my mind and it won't go away.

I want to do a breastfeeding photo project. This may have been done before but that's ok, because obviously we still aren't seeing enough breastfeeding in our culture. So here's my plan...

I need breastfeeding moms willing to be photographed. Your child can be any age. I want to photograph you nursing in your own environment or a place you would typically nurse. That could be your home, the park, the mall, etc.

I want these photos to be beautiful and accurate portrayals of breastfeeding. If you use a cover, great. If you don't, great. I'm not looking for anything in particular other than moms giving their children the best nature has to offer.

I live in Salt Lake City and am willing to travel about an hour in any direction to do these photo shoots. In exchange for your time, I will give you one high resolution digital file of your choice from the shoot. Additional digital files and prints will be available for purchase.

I don't know yet how far this project will go or what the end result will be. I'll take it one shoot at a time and see what happens. I also have no time limit on this, but seeing as how I'm due to have a baby in less than 3 months, I would like to do as many shoots as I can before then.

So if you are a breastfeeding mom or you know a breastfeeding mom willing to be photographed for my little project, please email me at redbeanphoto AT gmail DOT com.

And feel free to spread the word!

Thanks!

I did a public breastfeeding project when I was at BYU due to the woman who got kicked off the plane and then my astonishment at the reaction of my photo classmates. I think this is a great idea! Good luck!

M--I will for sure be doing some kind of blog or website to display the photos.

Kelli--So cool you did something similar. I'm sure your photos were gorgeous as always!

OH man, I wish you were near Boston! And to think, I actually used to live in Salt Lake! I have so often t hought that I wish I could capture the moment while my 7 month old nurses and your photography would be the perfect way! Congratulations and good luck to all the women who live close that you WILL get to photograph! It's such a special and beautiful thing.

I realized not too long ago that I didn't get any good pics of Abe nursing! Well, it's not too late for number 2. Maybe you'll make an exception and take a few shots for me in august :)

Oh, what a wonderful idea! I love it. I wish I would have gotten a good pic of me nusring my first, but it is so hard to photograph yourself! I would love to be part of your project, as I just gave birth to #2, whoo-hoo; but I live in Montana... If you come up this way at all, please keep me in mind! Best of luck with your project... I can't wait to see the results!

What a beautiful idea! I'm in Denver, so sadly too far. I nursed my first son for 11 months and am going on 9 months with this little man. I can feel his interest in it waning and I'll be sad to see this special time end. What a lovely idea to capture it on film! I look forward to seeing the results.

Love this!! I can't wait to see the images you post. If I was close to you, I'd definitely participate. Photography is a hobby of mine, and I've been thinking about taking some images of myself nursing...I just need to figure out how to set them up.
